Note To Self

M IS FOR?
MORE!
I have decided that I simply must plant more tulip bulbs this autumn. I have never been a great fan of the leaves which I think are most manky, but oh what magnificent flowers. Mine are all planted in containers so that I can hide them away once the flowers are done and dusted. They seem to be a couple of weeks ahead of last year. In the above photo are 'Couleur Cardinale, Havran and 'Prinses Irene'. In other pots I have 'Spring Green', 'Passionale', 'Mount Tacoma' and 'Bruine Wimpel'. Would like to know which tulips other folk are growing this year.

You will find more on the letter M over at ABC Wednesday!

  4. Actually I like these leaves and how they fall. They look great in the photo. When I lived in the country and had tulips, the deer would come and eat them. I stopped planting them :[(

  5. I can't wait to see MORE images of the tulips that you plant, but I guess we'll have to wait!

  6. Lovely tulips Anna - and your pot sets off the colours really well.
I am also growing couleur cardinal, which I planted with Princess Irene - sadly the couleur cardinal is still in tight bud, yes also to Spring Green - as for the rest, when they come out I will do a post!

I dont think you can ever have too many pots of tulips!

  7. We have a deer problem here, too. I love tulips as a cut flower, and fortunately they are affordable at the supermarket. Yours are lovely, and so is the photo

  9. I love tulips and mine are a couple of weeks ahead this year too. I'm not sure what all of mine are as i inherited some, but my Doll's Minuette has multiplied to 16 flowers this year!

  10. My biggest regret is not buying tulips for pots last Autumn - becuase we were going to be moving, which of course STILL hasn't happened! Lesson learnt, and I will try mixing some colours up, I love the tapestry effect you have there. I have Havran and Ballerina in the borders, would never want to be without Ballerina, as it smells nice too. More tulips... Must have more tulips...

  12. I actually bought tall tulips for pots last year (I usually prefer the short ones). They loked good but I have replanted them in the garden - I'm trying to reduce the number of pots I have to water. Vaguely hoping that perennials will cover the dying foliage!

  13. I've got a couple of tulips growing out of the side of my compost heap. I don't know why I ever chucked them, they look bloody marvelous. I'm also developing more than a sneaky regard for wallflowers after watching a programme about sissinghurst on an obscure satelite chanel.

  17. I agree...I've been hesitant in the past about spring bulbs, hating the ratty foliage after they flower, but after last spring, seeing all the other gardens around me blooming with blazes of color, I decided I'd just be strategic and plant them where other things would grow over them later and hide that foliage...so glad I did!
