Garden Bloggers' Muse Day ~ February 2011

"From December to March, there are for many of
us three gardens:
the garden outdoors,
the garden of pots and bowls in the house,
and the garden of the mind's eye."

~ Katherine S. White, 1892 -1977.

More February musing can be found over at Sweet Home and Garden Chicago.

  1. I visited Wisley last Friday to check out Witch Hazels and buy one. Spent ages looking at them in the main garden, decided on "Orange Peel" only to discover the garden centre was closed for stocktaking (1 day out of 365)...damn!

  2. Dear Anna, For me....only two gardens.....I gave up the indoor ones years ago!!

Your Hamamelis looks absolutely wonderful. A real fashion statement in the garden at this time of the year!

  4. I second Edith, that is a lovely photo of your witch hazel. The garden of the mind is so necessary - love the quotation!

  6. Lovely photo of the witch hazel. Sadly, the one I planted last autumn has not flowered - perhaps next January?

  7. Aren't mind's eye gardens wonderful? No pests to destroy crops, no failures and no weather damage either.

  8. I'm with Edith, no indoor garden, unless you count the seedlings, but my "garden of the mind" is thriving - and much larger than the one I see outside my window all damp and beige.

  9. The garden in my 'mind's eye' is very active right now...more so than those outdoors or indoors in pots. I have very few indoors and just the hellebore buds (finally) outdoors to let me know there will soon be light at the end of this winter tunnel! Spring can't come soon enough. I love your photo of witch hazel. Is it blooming or getting ready to bloom where you are? It's really lovely.
