Wordy Wednesday ~ 17th April 2013 ~ Green

"I live in the country surrounded by green fields all year long, but when March slips into April I realise that I have never truly seen green before. It works every time, catching me breathless and dazed by sheer exhilaration. The luminous lime begins as a suggestion, speckling the hedgerows, almost shimmering above them, rather than growing out of the branches, then starts licking up from the bare soil with shocking intensity. Certainly nothing characterises the months of March, April and May as the range of greens shining like stained - glass windows".

  1. Everywhere is definitely starting to green up again now. The ground and branches have seemed to be brown for such a long time this year, even the weeds have been held back because of the cold weather.

  2. Lyrical.Well done Mr. Don. One of the nicest things about spring is the freshness of the greens against the bright yellow of daffodils.

    1. Yellow and green are such a vivid and fresh combination Elaine at this time of year. I must confess that I'm not a huge fan of yellow but I'm considering yellow tulips next year.

  3. You can't beat the fresh green of spring. It is just starting here along the lanes, the hawthorn is turning a lovely shade of green , also the weeping willows, a real chartreuse, from now on it will just get better and better!

    1. Thanks for your comment Pauline :) No weeping willows here but a couple of ordinary ones in sight and it is always a pleasure to watch the leaves unfurl and colour.

  6. Lovely pictures capturing greens... and I like the quote too. I find Monty Don has a way with words and I have rather a soft spot for him! (Haven't read any of his books though - yet!)

    1. Monty is a most accomplished wordsmith Cathy and a great thing is that most of his books are in bite size pieces - ideal for summer evenings :)

  7. I love that Monty Don quote, and it is so true. You have more signs of spring in your garden than I do though. I keep meaning to take a walk up the river valley in the hope that the more sheltered environment means there will be similar bursts of vivid green.
