A Postcard From Malvern

A misty Saturday morning cleared to give rise to a decent day for visiting the Malvern Autumn Show held at the Three Counties Showground. This show is a celebration of the season and although horticulture and plants feature there are many other attractions. We stood with open mouths looking up at the loop the loop manoeuvres of the aerobatic planes (moving much to fast for me to photo), laughed ourselves silly watching the Lamb Grand National, complete with brilliant commentary and coveted camper vans even more vintage than ours. Thoughts of my dear Dad were never far away during the weekend. If still alive Dad would have been 85 today. He trained as a teacher in Worcester and  one of his teaching practises was at a school in Malvern. As a farmer's son he would have been in his element at the show and would have certainly remembered using some of the old agricultural machinery that was on display. Although tinged with some sadness it was still a most enjoyable and memorable day out.

    1. It was a grand day out Jenny. The best set of eggs were unfortunately hidden from view as the judges were still in the tent. Most inconsiderate of them :)

  2. It was very misty on Saturday morning. I expect your Dad trained where I work as we used to be the teacher training college. Glad you enjoyed the show, sorry I missed it, and you, but it was a case of trying to be in too many places at the same time!

    1. The mist was a bit of a surprise when we woke up but it soon cleared. Interesting to know what has happened to the teacher training college Helen. Sorry to have missed you too but it's hard to fit everything in at times. Maybe next year ? :)

  3. Birthdays of loved ones no longer with us are always sad, but as the years pass, happy memories can be brought to mind. I've never visited the Malvern Show but it's one I'd really like to go to one day.

  4. A post of mixed emotions, Anna - thanks for sharing. What sort of camper van do you have? We are a little clearer now about what we would like but a long way off coming to any decision yet.

  5. We were there on Saturday too. Had a fantastic day, but somehow saw less than previous years, despite arriving two hours earlier than usual. Seriously thinking of doing both days next year.

    1. Oh would have been nice to have said hello - another year maybe. I've come to the conclusion that it's impossible to fit it all in on one day so decided on priorities when we arrived - just about had time to stop for lunch :)

    1. Thanks for your kind words Jessica. The spring show does have much more in the way of plants and gardens to enjoy but I think that the autumn show is a great celebration of the season. The weather is often better too than in May :)

  7. I used to love going to shows like this, but smaller more local ones - I do miss that kind of thing! Love those apples all laid out, and the displays of vegetables. This is not at all a German tradition. But we do have our autumn market coming up, which is very enjoyable too.

  8. Looks like a fun trip, albeit tinged with sadness. Bet your Dad would be glad you enjoyed something he would have loved too though.
