A Puzzling Time

I hope that you had a good Christmas and are feeling suitably refreshed. There has not been much time for gardening here but I was hoping to share a potful of snowdrops with you and relate the tale of some thwarted rather angry squirrels. However my camera is playing up at the moment and the photos are trapped therein. There has been much ruminating on the cause of the problem and then some logical deduction as to what the fault may be. Fingers crossed that it is just a new USB lead that is required so that normal service can be resumed soon.

Instead here is a photo of the fiendishly difficult jigsaw puzzle, 'The Bizarre Bookshop', which has formed part of our festive activities. It is still a work in progress and has required the aid of a magnifying glass to sort out some of the finer details. The second jigsaw which has a horticultural theme remains in its box and I can now confidently say that it will not be started until next year.

We went garden centre shopping yesterday for one or two odds and ends. Not surprisingly some seeds came home with me. If you have a local garden centre belonging to the Garden Centre Group near you it may be worth popping in as they have a sale on. Thompson and Morgan, Suttons and Sarah Raven's seeds are all half price! I was restrained as I've not yet finished sorting out the seed boxes but I did come home with a few packets. One of my favourite catalogues - the Avon Bulbs spring catalogue arrived in the post this morning so I'm heading off to study the contents carefully especially the list of snowdrops. I may be some time!

  2. Hmmm, that puzzle does look difficult, it should keep you going a while longer. I always visit one of the Garden Centre Group's outlets at the end of the season to buy my seeds for the following year, they reduce them to 50p so I get some real bargains. I've never bought from Avon Bulbs but I may just have to peruse their website, I'll blame you if my credit card takes a bashing.

    1. It took us just over a week to complete Jo :) Now I can't assume any responsibility if you are tempted by the Avon Bulbs website - willpower is the name of the game.

  3. I gave that very same jigsaw to my nice this Xmas, it seems to be keeping her busy too.
Chilterns seed catalogue just arrived too. I love catalogue time. Avon bulbs are excellent.

    1. I hope that you niece has enjoyed the puzzle as much as we have done Chloris. I agree - Avon Bulbs are a first rate company to purchase bulbs and plants from.

  4. I'm not one for jigsaws but this one looks pretty (could be my book shelf!). Don't get too carried away with your catalogues, Anna - sadly (or luckily as my husband would say) we don't have any of your fab English garden centres nearby. ;) Happy new year :)

    1. Thanks for your comment Naomi - what a shame that there are no Garden Centre Group members in your neck of the woods. Happy New Year and good growing to you too :)

  6. Loving that jigsaw Anna - I haven't done a jigsaw for years mind you! I'm not sure if we have a garden centre group near us (no - just check their store locator, all located south of the border). I've been in a couple of GCs recently and no bargains to be had! There were some plants but nothing I could make use of and I don't do seed (yet) so don't look there.
Have a good New Year - Happy Hogmanay!

    1. I had not done a jigsaw for years either Angie, but came across one earlier this year when spring cleaning and thoroughly enjoyed doing it so much so that we treated ourselves to a new one for Christmas. Hope that you enjoyed your Hogmany celebrations :)

  7. I went and searched in vain for my snowdrops today... no signs of them yet despite the relatively mild winter we're having. So I am looking forward all the more to seeing yours Anna!

    1. They have only just started to peek through in the garden during the last week Cathy but one or two of the specials in the greenhouse are out and others are not far behind :)

  8. Just realised my comment from yesterday is missing even though after two tries it definitely said it was publishing - has it gone into junk? Was talking about Sarah Raven seeds and snowdrops - and this jigsaw :(

  9. Oh Cathy what a shame :( I have checked both comments waiting for moderation and spam but zilch. Thanks for trying so hard - I can only wonder what you might have said :(

I wil try to reply to everyone who leaves a comment, but it may take me a few days, especially when I start spending more time in the garden and at the lottie. I know that you will understand :) I am sure that I will also visit your blog if I have not already done so.
