Garden Bloggers' Bloom Day ~ March 2014

Some blooms from another 'garden' this month. We are just back from a few days in the Lake District where we went in search of daffodils. We were perhaps a week or so too early to see them at their peak but here you can glimpse some in the beautiful and oh so tranquil setting of St. Anthony's Church on Cartmel Fell. The snowdrops were still just hanging on, there were vivid patches of crocuses, a few primroses in flower and a myriad of daffodils waiting to open in the churchyard. All this beauty in the middle of nowhere!

Thanks to Carol from May Dreams Gardens who came up with the brilliant idea of sharing our blooms each month.

  1. Thank you for sharing these views with us. I think old churchyards can be such beautiful places for "wild" flowers, they look so charming in their setting.

    1. Thanks for your comment Pauline. It was a beautiful spot which my photos did not really do justice to.

  2. Lovely crocuses. Shame about the daffodils - who'd have thought they'd be so far behind? Most people's down here in the south seem to have been out for ages. Hope you enjoyed some Cartmel sticky toffee pudding!

    1. Helen, it may have just been the spot where the church is located well up on the fells. Some of the daffies were open but there were hundreds of narcissus pseudonarcissus still to follow. We bought some sticky toffee apple crumble home with us :)

  4. I just love those pictures Anna! The old stone walls, the wooden gate, the churchyard left to grass and spring flowers... it's all so "English" and I do miss scenes like this! :D

    1. Such spots certainly represent the best face of England Cathy but I'm sure that Barvaria has many compensations :)

  9. My daffodils are only just starting to flower, and the ones in containers are nowhere near yet. I've never visited the Lake District, it's on my list of 'must see' places.

  10. Something different for bloom day - very nice! Shame you were just a wee bit too early. Mind you - it could have been worse and there was no blooms ;)

  11. I am very jealous of your trip to the Lake District - I had many visits as a child and went back for a week last summer with my mother. I have never been in the spring though and would love to see the daffodils!
