In A Vase On Monday ~ "I'm A Little Teapot"

"I'm a little teapot
Short and stout,
Here is my handle
Here is my spout
When I get all steamed up,
Hear me shout
Tip me over and pour me out"

Sadly this particular little teapot has come adrift at some stage from its lid. It's tea pouring days are no more so it's just as well somebody spotted its vase potential. It is now very much re-loved and is filled with flowers today.

In this week's vase are the first of the 2016 dahlias in flower, the small white pompon 'Snowflake'. They are the first white dahlias that I've ever grown and I'm delighted with them. I've also grown the bigger white 'Onesta' which is just as pleasing but is too big for this vase. I've added some 'Blueball' cornflowers which are still going strong at the allotment, along with one head of anemone coronaria 'Mr Fokker'. The amounts of rain we've been having have made all the anemones look really bedraggled especially the white flowering 'The Bride'. However I've chopped off all the old flowers this morning and hopefully fresh ones will take their place. Also from the allotment a flower head from one of the fennel plants. The garden has contributed the dainty white buttons of achillea ptarmica 'The Pearl, the lilac daisy- like flowers of kalimeris incisa 'Charlotte' and last but by no means least a spray of that old stalwart alchemilla mollis.

Thanks as always to the lovely Cathy from 'Rambling In The Garden' for the encouragement to pick some flowers for 'In A Vase On Monday'. It's such a gentle start to the week.

  1. Very pretty, Dorris! Esp. love the rich blues and the repurposed teapot. I've donated my drawing of sweet pea seeds from Cathy to you, if you want them. You are in the UK, right?

    1. Ha! Silly me. How embarrassing. All this time I am calling you Dorris and you've never corrected me. ;) I will amend my comments to the correct pronoun, Anna!

    2. Eliza, I answer to almost any name :) Thanks for your most kind offer. You are quite correct - I'm in the UK. I must confess though that I already have a good number of sweet pea seeds in my seed box. Perhaps Cathy could redraw? It's a shame that it looks as if it is not possible for them to travel over the pond.

  4. Good old Alchemilla always manages to add that certain something! I love those blues, and those little buttons too. They are what my Mum used to grow when I was a child! We called them Bachelor's Buttons. Now that has taken me back a few years... :)

  5. Both the container and its contents are wonderful, Anna. It surprises me to see anemones and dahlias in one place as here the former are late winter/early spring bloomers and dahlias own the summer months - yet more evidence of how different are climates are.

  6. I love the blues and whites too - and the blueness of Dr/Mr Fokker never ceases to surprise me when I see it. I like the look of your little white dahlia too and will have to think about it when I am allowed to buy myself some more tubers... ;)

  9. Gorgeous colours, I do love that anemone. I think the arrangement looks so pretty in the little teapot, its tea serving days may be over but it makes a beautiful vase.

  10. Perfect second life for the teapot which is a very pretty design. It's lovely to see Mr. Fokker again, mine finished ages ago, in fact I think your flowers look very spring-like.
