Musing In October

"Fall, leaves, fall; die, flowers, away;
Lengthen night and shorten day;
Every leaf speaks bliss to me
Fluttering from the autumn tree.
I shall smile when wreaths of snow
Blossom where the rose should grow;
I shall sing when night’s decay
Ushers in a drearier day."

~ Poem 'Fall, Leaves, Fall' by Emily Bronte, 1818 -1848.
Illustration by Lena Anderson, 1939 -
Today is National Poetry Day. This year's theme is messages.

  1. Such a lovely poem, Anna. Wish I'd known it Tuesday when we had our poetry lunch celebrating the season but never mind - thanks to you I shall be well prepared next year :) Hope your mum is better x

    1. Thanks Annette. A poetry lunch celebrating the season sounds a most civilised state of affairs. Hope that you remember it for next autumn. Mum is still very frail but it is better than she was :)

    1. Glad to read that you liked the poem Cathy. 'Autumn' is a great dipping into anthology Cathy - mostly prose but some poetry too. I think that you would enjoy it too.

    1. Well it's coming up to that time of year when wishes might morph into reality Brian. I hope that yours are granted. The first three books are well worth the read and 'Winter' is still to come.
