In A Vase On Monday ~ A Bridal Bouquet

My first 'vase' this week is a bouquet tenderly held by a newly-wed bride. The flowers - a mix of white and cream roses, the palest of pink sweet peas and soft pink astilbe together with eucalyptus foliage. The bride in question married my nephew last weekend and we were privileged to have been invited to share such a happy day with them.

One of the vases of flowers which had decorated the church was moved to a table just inside the entrance of the reception venue. Very similar to the bridal bouquet but with pale pink roses instead of white and white delphiniums in lieu of the sweet peas. We didn't notice that the lampshade was at such a tipsy angle when we took photos of the flowers - maybe it was the champagne fumes.

Finally what I thought was a most special touch and one that made my eyes moisten. A step ladder to one side of the table was decorated with simple floral vases, together with photos of the bride and groom's parents and grandparents (including a photo of my parents).

I'm sure that our hostess Cathy will forgive me from straying from the brief this week. If you haven't already popped over to 'Rambling In The Garden', please do so. As usual Cathy has a floral treat in store to wonder over and there are links to other vases each with their own story.

  1. Lovely flowers and sentiment. We had photos of our parents on their wedding day on the table with our wedding cake. They were each approaching being married 50 years and we wanted to acknowledge that milestone as well as our own.

    1. Thank you for your comment Linda. I hope that my nephew and his new wife will have a long and happy marriage ahead of them. What a nice way to mark the milestone that both sets of your parents were approaching on your big day.

  2. Beautiful flowers and I love the sentiment of having photographs of their parents and grandparents. What a great start to a marriage to be including family from the start.

    1. Family and friends were very much at the heart of the celebration Christina. The wedding venue was chosen so that most of the guests were there for the weekend and the vicar emphasised the importance of family and friends to the couple during the ceremony. It was a most joyous day.

  3. Many congratulations to the happy couple. Such beautiful flowers, both in the bouquet and the arrangements. I love the idea of having photos of the parents and grandparents on their wedding days too.

  4. I would feel in heaven and so lucky to carry a bouquet like that...what incredible wedding flowers....and I adored the ladder. At an in-law wedding, the bride and groom had wedding photos of their parents and grandparents on each table and these matched your place card....it was so sweet and a wonderful way to show their love for their family.

    1. I would have felt fortunate to have carried a bouquet like that Donna. We got married at the start of December when flowers are rather thin on the ground :) I like the idea of matching wedding photos and place cards.

  5. The ladder and its photos is a wonderful addition to the bridal display, Anna! And I was delighted to see that the bride's lovely bouquet included Lisianthus (Eustoma grandiflorum) if I'm not mistaken.

  7. Such a happy occasion, Anna, glad you've had a splendid day. I love the muted, elegant shades of the bridal bouquet and you're right, the still life on the step ladder is most touching. Best wishes

    1. The pinks were all most attractive Alison and funnily enough both the mother of the bride and the mother of the bridegroom were in pink outfits :)

    1. Oh dear Noelle I'm not sure how I might have managed to give the impression that I had made the bouquets. Would that I were so talented :) I could probably cope with selecting the flowers but never with assembling them so well. No they were all put together by a florist. As you say the colours were beautiful and they complimented each other so well.
