Just a sole occupant in today's 'In A Vase On Monday' - some branches from the forsythia that is just outside the allotment gates. I left it to late for forcing these into flower as early some of my blogging friends have done. Having said that though the shrub is still a way off being at its peak when it comes to blossom power. When I picked them after a Saturday afternoon stint at the allotment there was only a single flower open, but after almost a day in the relative warmth of our utility room there was a noticeable difference. There was also a marked difference in the weather when I took these photos late yesterday afternoon. We have sunshine, we have shadows, we have spring!
It was interesting to go back in time to March 22nd 2009 when the forsythia last featured here in this post, describing my walk back home from the allotment. The forsythia was already in full blossom that day.
Thanks as ever to our hostess Cathy over at the 'Rambling In The Garden' for her stalwart hosting. She has some exquisite spring treasures in her vase this week. I'm looking forward to checking in later to see what everyone else has in their vases this week.
Such good value at this time of year - love the shadows.
ReplyDeleteI loved seeing these happy spring flowers...my forsythia did not bloom when forced but I think I cut my branches when it was too warm in our unusual warm Feb. Hoping my bush does bloom but with all the warm and cold crazy cycles who knows.
ReplyDeleteIts interesting to look about over past years to find out what was blooming when. I like your forsythia and because there are shadows we also know there is sunshine. Hurrah!
ReplyDeleteSunshine in a container! Beautiful blooms and shadows. Hooray for spring!
ReplyDeleteYes, I noticed the shadows too, Anna and agree that they are suggestive of warmer days. It was interesting to read that post from NINE years ago!! Your forsythia proves just why I feel rather differently about it these days as it looks wonderful and sunny in a vase; growing it at the allotment is a good compromise. Thanks for sharing
ReplyDeleteThe turquoise glaze on pitcher with the bright yellow forsythia. I love forsythia, but can never decide where I might put it in my own yard. Maybe one day I will commit.
ReplyDeleteOops, I'm surprised to see your forsythia still in bud or almost. Ours has been flowering for weeks now but spring is so reluctant this year, it's crazy. Glad you can enjoy shadows, to grey and dull here today but here's hoping...have a good week and Easter :)
ReplyDeleteI LOVE that vase! Gorgeous choice!
ReplyDeleteNo forsythia that I've seen here yet. (Though I have one tiny daffodil in a window box and one tiny snowdrop on the allotment.)
ReplyDeleteI don't think ours has come out yet. Most things are still in tight bud and I don't blame them. Brr. Your vase is very bright and cheerful and lovely shadows too.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad spring had finally found you, Anna! I can't think of a better way to welcome its arrival than with those sunny yellow flowers either.
ReplyDeleteI love branches brought in to force - it lightens the home so much!
ReplyDeleteThat yellow is just so special, isn't it?! :) Still waiting for mine, but when the shrubs in our street all start flowering it is such a lovely sight! Happy Spring Anna!
ReplyDeleteIt’s always interesting yo look back on old photos.
ReplyDeleteIt is always interesting to compare when plants flower each year. Sometimes they are early because the weather is warm or like my tulips in the garden this year, early because it was cold much earlier than usual and they really need that cold to start into growth.
ReplyDeleteLovely. It's actually coming out in the garden now. Just in time for Easter.
