IAVOM ~ Snow White

In my vase this fine Monday are just a few of the beautiful and scented 'Thalia' narcissus which I think must be my favourite narcissus. It spreads well, is easy going and never seems to be troubled by any pests. The settled weather we have had for a while now is suiting her. My vase is an old Horrell's Devon cider stoneware jug purchased from a charity shop many years ago.

The weather here has changed since I last posted a couple of weeks ago and it seems now that spring is very much here. We are still experiencing some cold nights but I am sure that we've seen the last of the snow. We could do with some rain but hopefully it will come soon and considerately fall overnight. The hardy annuals grown from seed last September are hardening off, other more recently sown seeds are still sheltering in the greenhouse and a few more seeds are still to be sown before the end of April. We went to a plant fair on Saturday - more of that soon. Looking forward to settling down later tonight or tomorrow to peruse other spring time vases from near and far. As always a big thanks to Cathy over at 'Rambling In The Garden' for so graciously and diligently hosting whatever the season.

  1. Gosh they do look startlingly white, Anna! And how nice to have such an abundance of them for your cider jug - very pretty, so thanks for sharing. How exciting to have been to a plant fair - no doubt you have some purchases to tell us about now...!

    1. Yes they do look most white indeed Cathy and were even whiter when I tried to take a photo in the sun. Surprisingly enough very few purchases to confess too 😒

  2. They're beautiful in their simplicity, Anna - I wish I could smell them. With one exception, my daffodils seem to be history already and I expect the current heatwave will take the remaining daffodils if it hasn't already. Enjoy the pitter-patter of that rain!

    1. Thanks Kris. I imagine that your narcissus start well before ours but still it's always sad to see them go. I will certainly enjoy that rain when it comes but no sign on the horizon of any wet stuff for a while.

  3. I love Thalia but lots of bulbs that I planted have gradually disappeared 😒

    1. Oh that is sad Sue. I wonder why they were unhappy.

  5. That Thalia is a delightful daff, we can all agree on that. Plenty of places round here you could take your jar to be filled, and soon the blossom on all those cider apple orchards will be out. We here too are hoping for rain.

    1. Oh apple blossom and endless refills for the cider jug - that sounds an idyllic state of affairs Noelle πŸ˜‚ We have been to Herefordshire when the apple orchards are in flower and it's quite magical.

  6. They are a lovely daffodil and you have also reminded me of what some of mine are! I seem to have a mental block when it comes to bulb names. I love the jug too.

  7. These are so lovely! It's so easy to forget that daffodils need not just be yellow! They certainly have an elegance to them that others don't! Delightful. Amanda

  8. The paler white and cream daffies are my favourites Amanda and 'Thalia' is the queen amongst them. She is definitely a most elegant lady.

  9. She's a beauty indeed and one of my most reliable varieties, bulking up nicely and flowering abundantly every year. We too have a bad drought so the spring flowers don't last very long. No rain in sight, it's tough as the rain at this time of year is so important for good growth and performance. Love your jug too :)
