- Two varieties of iris reticulata - namely 'Purple Hill' and 'Clairette'. Although the flowers never seem to last for long, their subtle markings are always so fascinating to view especially at close quarters.
- One of the last remaining snowdrops in flower - plicatus 'Augustus' with it's distinctive seersucker petals.
Keeking a protective watch over my teeny tiny vase is 'An Angel Of The Garden' figurine, whose purchase was prompted by seeing her some time ago feature in Cathy's 'Words and Herbs' blog. Thank you Cathy for putting temptation in my way π
Thanks also to Cathy over at 'Rambling In The Garden', who so gently encourages us to share our vases each and every Monday, whatever the season and weather is throwing at us. The forecast for the rest of the week here is decidedly wintry in nature with cold overnight temperatures and possibly some snow on Thursday. Winter has not run it's course yet so seed sowing plans in the greenhouse are on hold. I did sow some larkspur at the weekend though as I thought that they would appreciate the chill. No signs of any germination yet from my September sown seeds. Hope that everyone has a good week ahead whatever they are up to.
Beautiful iris and snowdrops. I love Willow figurines.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your visit and kind words π
DeleteOh that is adorable. Anna - what a lovely combination the snowdrop and iris make in the teeny little pot! I don't remember Cathy's gardening angel but now I see yours I know I have to seek one out too, especially as I know she is already hanging around here... π
ReplyDeleteThanks Cathy π It was a good while ago since I fell for Cathy's angel. I got mine from a local jewellers cum gift shop that stocked the range from Willow Tree Gifts. This company has a website but it pays to shop around. That huge concern that begins with an A stocks them as well as other online companies. Hope that you find her.
Deleteps where should I be looking?
ReplyDeleteI love your still life Anna - it's perfectly sweet. The arrangement of Iris and snowdrops is perfect in the little vase - and the angel of the garden does appear to be watching over then. :)
ReplyDeleteOh it's lovely to see you again Catherine - thanks for your comment π Yes it's amusing how she appears to be watching over the vase and contents even though she has no facial features π€
DeleteThe Anonymous above is me - I forgot to add the name & web details! I'm out of practice. :D
ReplyDeleteI'm glad that you broke your anonymous cover Catherine π You may be out of practice but sadly Blogger seems to make it harder for bloggers who use Wordpress to comment.
DeleteHi Anna, I love the gardening angel and also enjoy the markings on the Iris. I wish my garden had an angel wielding a spade sometimes! Amelia.
ReplyDeleteI share your wish Amelia. I would happily make use of a flight of angels wielding spades π
DeleteWhat a pretty posy, Anna! I wish the Iris reticulata had done well for me here but such is not the case. I remember Cathy's garden angel. I have one from what is clearly the same series but she's holding a cat - it was sent by a friend I'd had from childhood who sadly was lost all too soon to cancer, and all the more special to me as a remembrance.
ReplyDeleteOh I wish that you could grow iris reticulata Kris but then you have other gems to make up for it. Your cat cradling angel must have a special place in your heart xxx
DeleteGreat minds think alike Anna! I nearly added one of my three snowdrops, but decided against it. Perhaps I will have four next year! I like the purple iris especially. Their bold colour is always welcome isn't it. The angel stands on my fireplace - that was a gift from my Mum too. She has one with birds sitting on her outstretched arms. Have a good week Anna!
ReplyDeleteI prefer the darker irises too Cathy. They seem to make more of an impact. I am going to try 'Pauline' this autumn as I have a long time friend of that name. I've never grown her but saw here in flower at a local garden centre recently and she is most appealing. Another lovely gift from your mum π
ReplyDeleteI have one of those angels but unfortunately the wings have fallen off,
