'In The Pink' ~ Part 2

Another variation on a theme of this week in my vase this Monday - well mainly pink with a hint of burgundy creeping in. The occupants are :
  • Cosmos - I purchased the seed in good faith as 'Fizzy Purple', the seed packet's blurb promising large purple coloured flowers. Something went amiss along the way as the flowers have varied in colour and not a single one was purple. These flowers are from the most attractive to me plant.
  • Astrantia major 'Burgundy Manor' - a hardy perennial with both dark flowers and dark stems. This is it's second flush of flowers. I cut off the first batch before they went to seed.
  • More of the achillea 'Summer Berries' - a long flowering perennial sown in the spring of 2020.
  • Aster divaricatus also known as the white wood aster - a late flowering perennial. I bought my original plant from the sales area in the garden at Powis Castle in north Wales many moons ago. It's a most unassuming plant that just gently gets on with it's own business.

A big thank you as always to Cathy over at 'Rambling In The Garden' who generously gathers us together weekly to share our vases. Here we have the week that we have dreamed of since June - blue skies, sunshine, soaring temperatures and not a drop of rain in sight. Bliss, although I may be uttering those words "It's too hot!" before long. Happy gardening.

  1. That packet of seed ought to have been labelled 'Pot Luck', but you have made the most and made a lovely show of late summer flowers. The dark Astrantia is quite perfect amongst the paler colours. It is really hot here today!

  2. Well, your Cosmos adds the perfect note to this bouquet, even if it wasn't what you expected, Anna. I've experienced repeated errors with bulb flowers that turn out to be completely different from what was advertised but mixed-up seeds would annoy me even more. Grower controls seem to be slipping. I love the Astrantia, which I've never managed to grow successfully here.

  4. It sounds like we have the same weather Anna. Isn't it wonderful! Your pinks are a delight, especially with that lovely vase again. Cosmos rarely seem to turn out as I expect, but at least that pink is a pretty one. I love that aster. It looks so delicate.

  6. Lovely collection Anna. Disappointing to not have the chosen color in your cosmos but they are attractive. I love the Astrantia.
Enjoy your beautiful weather. Record-setting heat here and dry, dry, dry.

  7. That's such a pretty cosmos! For some reason, ones I sowed this year all turned out tiny and not very vase-friendly. Might have to test my luck with a variety pack next year.

  8. The cosmos you have used is so pretty, but what a shame it wasn't what you expected - will you 'complain' about it? How lovely to have a second flush on Burgundy Manor (not one I have, and those dark stems sound appealing) - I did notice fresh flowers on one of mine but most check around and see if there are any more. While I remember, I meant to tell youI have a nsecond flush of flowers on my pimpinella, which was a nice surprise. I agree about the unassumingness of the aster (eurybia!), which contributes to a very pretty pink vase 😊
