IAVOM ~ Hellebore Days

A trio of hellebores in today's 'In A Vase On Monday' - the names are lost in the mists of time apart from the one with the pink edging on the flower which is Helleborus Gold Collection 'Ice n' Roses' - Picotee'. The arum leaf which you can just about glimpse at the back is from a seedling of arum italicum, which is now self seeding to nuisance proportions. My fault for once commenting to a friend that it had never seeded whilst hers had. Most of the seedlings are being extricated when I spot them but this one escaped. It is different from the parent and I like the markings.

The vase is also one of a trio which came home with me last summer after a garden visit.

Thanks as always to the lovely Cathy over at 'Rambling In The Garden' for her hosting this weekly meme which is must appreciated. A rare completely dry day so I have been busy pruning and filling the garden waste bin up in readiness for the first grand collection after the winter respite. Then the filling game will start again with only two weeks to the next collection. Looking forward to seeing what is on other vases this week.

  1. Beautiful hellebores and the Arum leaf is the perfect companion. Although my hellebores have been slowly spreading I still don't have the heart to cut some flowers for the vase. I think it'll be another few years! Have a good week xx

  2. You must have been so excited to have your first green bin collection of the year, Anna! It's interesting to hear that you are beginning to find arum a nuisance - I am aware that it can be thuggish, but so far it is still welcome. Your hellebores look lovely in this vase - not sure if it's the shape or the colour or a combination of both?

  3. It's an exceptionally pretty arrangement, Anna. I'd love to have hellebores that coordinated so beautifully and the Arum leaf provides just the right complement.

  5. Anna, you have Hellebores that self seed to nuisance proportions? Send them to my garden - please! Lol. I adore hellebores and go into raptures when mine flower, but I only have two plants and just one has flowered so far. I really need to plant some more for this winter, because currently I am suffering from "hellebore envy"! ;) Your vase this week is beautiful.

  6. That vase is ideal for showing off those hellebores, and very nice they are too. At least one of your seedlings of Arum is nicely patterned Anna, sadly mine are all green, and from last year I started to remove the stem of seeds as soon as I could see some of them shed on the ground.

  7. I said to Cathy this week I wish I could grow Arum. I love the foliage. Oh well. I did read that it could be invasive. I love the pastels of the hellebores and they look wonderful in the new vase, perfect size! Amelia

  8. Your dear little vase made me smile Anna! The trio of hellebores is so pretty, and the arum leaf marking really striking. Good to hear you have had a dry day - a rare thing this winter for most of us! Wishing you a sunny and dry week!

  9. Anna, H. 'Ice n' Roses' is a charmer. It looks lovely flanked by the white and red hellebores. I think you selected the perfect vase too. Arum is invasive here and though mine had scarcely spread in 20 years, I set out to remove it a couple of years ago, missed it dearly last year, and now it's back again.
