Just a quick pick and plonk from me in this week's vase after an extremely hot day (the thermostat had steadily been creeping up for a few days) when the temperature soared to above 30°c. At this point I cease to function when it comes to outside activity and wonder just how my brother manages to live in a country where that is the year round norm. I was inside for the duration only venturing out to water a few pots about 7.00am, to snip the above and take photos before retreating indoors then venturing out again at 9.45pm to do some more watering. It is cooler but still warm today although thankfully less humid. In my vase are :
- Pansies - the little faces of 'Pansy Nature Mulberry Shades' and a couple of 'Pansy Nature Antique Shades'. They were grown from seed sown in the greenhouse during March. They have very short stems so are in the littlest of my vases. I plan to sow some more seed in September.
- A sprig of helichrysum petiolare 'Silver'. This snippet came from one of the cuttings that I took late last summer and overwintered in the greenhouse. It puts on amazing growth during one season and makes for an attractive foliage plant in containers. I shall take more cuttings again this year.
- A few bits of eminently strokable fluffiness in the shape of the annual lathyrus ovatus or 'Bunny Tails' grass which were sown in the greenhouse during March.
This is a great combination, and lovely. Very nice, and the pot is perfect. Happy vase day!
ReplyDeleteThanks for your visit and kind words Beth 😀
DeleteOh that first tomato...always especially yummy! Such sweet snippets today, and in such a a lovely little textured pot. I love Lagurus ovatus and it is one of my staples - does yours ever self seed? Fingers crossed for that rain tomorrow - I think we have a 70% chance... 🤞
ReplyDeleteOh it wasn't the very first tomato Cathy - I would have shared it with himself if it had been 🤣 Lagurus ovatus does self seed about with gay abandon here - if I let it. Decided a while ago to cull them. I think that we got that rain - hope that you did too 🤞
DeletePansies don't generally survive into the summer here so kudos to you for keeping your pretty plants alive under summer conditions akin to ours! My pansies and even my bunny tail grass are already long gone for the season. We're lucky to have air conditioning inside that clicks in when our temperature reaches 80F/27C. Luckily, our morning marine layer is back, at least for awhile, as it keeps the afternoon high temperatures at more reasonable levels.
ReplyDeleteAt least our brief heatwave was three days at the most Kris so the pansies survived Oh for air conditioning - my sister has it in her bedroom but it's unusual to have it in this country 😀
DeleteSo pretty. I haven't grown pansies for ages, I can't think why not as they are adorable. And the little bunny tails, I must try them again.
ReplyDeleteYou must give them another go Chloris 😀
DeleteOoh, a ripe tomato! I may have a couple by the end of this week too. I love your pansies Anna, and you have inspired me to seek out some nice seeds for autumn sowing. I have never tried growing them from seed before. Sadly my bunny tails didn't germinate, so lovely to see yours. Hope it is cooler today for you. Very humid and thundery here.
ReplyDeleteI'm amazed that I have ripe tomatoes before you Cathy given that mine are outdoor plants. I hope that you can track down some nice pansy seeds to sow this autumn. They are very slow to grow at first and just when you think that they have gone into a state of suspended animation they really take off 😀
DeleteNot only are the bunny tails strokable, I could feel my face crease into a smile as I spotted them first. The pansies are delightful, a firm favourite of mine.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad that you were smiling when you saw the bunny tails Noelle. They are a perfect plant for children big and small 😀
DeleteSuch a pretty arrangement, Anna. The colorful pansies are wonderful against the silver. I hope nice rains find you and your garden. I was right there with you and could almost taste and feel that tomato.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your visit and lovely words Susie. I wish that you had been there with me 😀
DeleteYour pansies are the most gorgeous colours. You’ve done well growing them from seed - mine weren’t so successful. I think I’ll be resorting to buying plug plants! I feel I want to have the ‘Bunny Tails’ in my hands! I hope your temperatures have reduced a little for you now. We’re having a mix of weather here - just about everything thrown in - but the garden’s enjoying it!
ReplyDeleteI've often bought them as plug plants and still do Catherine but have also grown them from seed for the last few years. It's great to pick the colours that you want. The bunnies tails simply cry out to be stroked. It seems to have reverted to a more like a typical summer here - especially now that the schools have broken up 😂
DeleteThe pansies are lovely such cute little faces.
ReplyDeleteYes their little faces are so cheering Sue 😀
