What better way to start a new month than with a vase of flowers. Yes September has arrived - my favourite month of the year after May. In my vase today are :
- Helenium 'Sahin's Early Flowerer - this is a hardy perennial which likes the sun but also moist soil. It usually does well in its allocated spot but has languished this long dry summer so along with the astrantias has received the odd drink from the watering can.
- Aster 'Little Carlow' - another hardy perennial and one of my favourites with clouds of small lavender blue small flowers.
- Some foliage from the climber 'Humulus Lupulus aureum' or golden hop. I've never seen this plant grow so much as it has done this year - it has turned into a veritable monster. It's looking most attractive now with all the dangly hops.
Thanks as always to our lovely hostess Cathy who blogs at 'Rambling In the Garden'. A quick and early post from me today as I need to get ready to head out for a garden centre visiting marathon with a dear friend who loves plants too. We may be gone for some time but I'm looking forward to catching up with everyone's vases later.
Nice! I like very much!
ReplyDeleteI wonder how restrained you were at the garden centre, Anna! Seeing the blue in your vase was quite a shock to the eye, somehow - perhaps because you suggested it was a more autumnal vase? The colour works well with the helenium though, doesn't it? Did you see on GW that Monty's Sahin's EF had been flowering for months, as perhaps yours has too? I grew one of these hops before but took it out because it was a bit thuggish - it makes a great statement though, so perhaps I should think about reintroducing it...
ReplyDeleteI love orange and blue combinations and this is a beautiful mix, Anna! I've got lots of orange at the moment but unfortunately very little blue.
ReplyDeleteAnother wonderful container, Anna. I really love those hops, are they ornamental or can you make beer? I started my plant shopping last night - a saddlebag to hang over the fence, mail order, can't wait to see it. A.melia
ReplyDeleteSeptember is a beautiful month, isn't it? Your combination and arrangement of your elements in your vase are so creative and lovely! I hope you had a wonderful time with your friend at the garden center! :)
ReplyDeleteA garden centre visiting marathon sounds a fabulous way to spend a September day Anna! Your sweet vase reminded me of that Aster which I had in my old garden and was very fond of. I planted a hop several years ago and it finally managed to produce a couple of fruits, but it is not as pretty as yours. I always assumed they love full sun, but mine obviously doesn't!
