'The Garden Of England'

I have been spending a few days in the fair county of Kent (often known as
'The Garden of England' because of its abundance of orchards and hops), hence my recent silence both here and commenting on other blogs. Just happened to stray over the border into East Sussex to visit Great Dixter, which after many years of wanting to visit more than lived up to all expectations! A sneak preview above and more to follow when normal service is resumed shortly.

  1. Really must get back to Great Dixter. Highlights of our visit many years back were watching the nursery cats sunbathing on the old cold frames, and Christopher Lloyd sneaking up on us while we were admiring the fan trained fig in the sunken garden. He put his hand on my shoulder, said "What do you think?" I said how impressed I was with the tree. He said "Good, good" and shuffled away, Dachshund in tow.

Partial to a cheese scone at Merriments on the way home too.

  2. Ive always wanted to visit Great Dixter!!

I love the idea that Christopher ripped out the rose garden and planted a tropical garden instead!

    Were the long borders impressive?

  3. If the rest of the photos look as wonderful as this, it's going to be wonderful.
