Garden Bloggers Bloom Day - July 2012

Despite the copious rains June's pastels are giving way to warmer, richer shades of purple, violet and deep pink. This month I have especially been enjoying old and familiar friends in the shape of various hardy geraniums. The double pratenses (middle row right and bottom row left) have been appreciating the cooler weather. At the moment there does not seem any danger of them being bleached or scorched by warm sunshine. Newer acquaintances are the day lilies which are all gifts from my friend D. I am sure that they came with labels but they have seem to have gone walkabout so sadly at the moment are all nameless. If you read this D. perhaps you might kindly come to the rescue. I have been waiting until late in the day for my favourite to open another flower but it has not obliged. No doubt it will unfurl tomorrow. I am really quite taken with day lilies and will be looking to add more to the garden in the future.

More July flowers can be lingered over via May Dreams Gardens.

  1. Lovely rich colours, bringing warmth to your garden even when the skies are grey.

  2. Flowers don't seem to be suffering from the weather quite as badly as the veggies. You've got some beauties there, I've never grown day lilies.

  4. Beautiful photos - I love the top right-hand plant with the unusual foliage. Is it also a geranium? I think I saw one at a show once...

  5. Lots of lovely flowers in spite of the rain, the geraniums seem to be enjoying it all, your garden must be looking very colourful at the moment. Day lilies are also enjoying the extra moisture and flowering like mad at the moment, just wish I could get out to deadhead mine, they look a bit messy with the old heads hanging on!

  6. I'm trying to hit all the British Bloom Day posts to see plants that are wallowing in wet conditions. I see you also grow my favorite little Geranium, 'Bob's Blunder'. The double Geranium is beautiful too. You will enjoy growing the eyed varieties of daylilies in your climate, as they will hold their color so well. I had to get rid of mine because they bleach so badly in the Midwestern sun.

  7. I think I spied Llium Eyeliner - reminds me of last summer when I was trying to make sure the cat didnt get near them. They are no more now but at least I can enjoy yours

  9. D chose well will daylilies - very a la mode and I've been seeing them in the best of gardens in large swathes. I love the blue geranium (2nd row - right) - does it have a name or did that label go walkabout? [I'm sure garden gremlins steal these]

  10. Geraniums are really enjoying this weather. I like your Day Lilies too - one of the few plants I can be bothered to deadhead!

  11. All that rain and now it looks like some more summery weather heading your way for next week. Should make for a great display when things dry out.
