A Poem For January

"Joy to You
I have bought some snowdrops ; only just a few,
But quite enough to prove the world awake,
Cheerful and hopeful in the frosty dew
And for the pale sun's sake'

~ Christina Rosetti, 1830 -1894

As a new year unfolds I wish joy to anybody who visits here. May 2013 treat you and your patch of earth whether garden or allotment kindly. A huge big thanks to everyone who has called in during 2012 - your comments and support have been much appreciated and have often bought smiles to my face. Blogging would not be the same without you.

The above collage is composed of photos taken in the garden or on our travels during 2012. It was difficult to put one together, as having suffered major computer woes earlier this year most of my photos are floating about in limbo. I know where there are but accessing them in chronological order and then sorting them out, is going to be a major challenge for me to sort out this year. April and May when I usually take a lot of photos are especially elusive.

From left to right starting in the top left hand corner ~
January - snowdrops in my garden, February - snowdrops and irises at Abbeywood Gardens, March - in the greenhouse.
April - spring arrives, May - brunnera , June - on the street planting in Le Bec Helloin, Normandy.
July - my favourite geranium, August - wildlife in the garden, September - a window box in Arles.
October - cotoneaster foliage, November - smiling violas, December - sunshine on a rainy day.

  1. Lovely selection of photos, hope you find your others in cyberspace, would hate to lose mine! Thanks for the link to Abbeywood, I grew up in Cheshire and always went blackberry picking in Delamere Forest, as did my children, but don't think Abbeywood was there then, or was it just that I wasn't interested in gardening in those days! So glad I found your blog, love your comments on mine, wishing you a very happy and drier new year for 2013!

  2. Sorting out your photos sounds quite a task, perhaps one to get to grips with before the onslaught of the sowing season. It's lovely to take a look back through the year. Happy New Year, all the very best for 2013.

  3. Oh lord the idea of having to sort out photographs would fill me with horror. I had some computer woes which meant I might lose everything, luckily I managed to back them up and then I didnt loose them anyway but I am very conscious that I need to back up better.

    Happy New Year

  6. Lovely photos, Anna! Now that we have turned toward the light I am getting excited for the spring garden. I have planted my first snowdrops and have fingers crossed they make it through the winter.

All the best for you and your garden in 2013!

  7. Lovely to see all that colour - and your spray bottle is definitely a cut above the usual boring fare from the average garden centre :-)

    Happy New Year

  8. A lovely collage--the last photo of the rainbow is the perfect way to end the year and begin a new one. I hope you had a wonderful Christmas, Anna, and wishing you happy gardening in the New Year!

  9. Those are pretty and thick clumps of Galanthus in your January and February photos. They combine beautifully with the blue iris. I've been trying to get my Galanthus to spread more, and hope that they will produce a better display this spring. The Brunnera of your May picture is one of my favourite plants, such lovely foliage and then the addition of pretty blue flowers.

May you have more rainbows to brighten any rainy days in 2013.

  12. Happy New Year, Anna! Your mosaic of photos from every month of the year is a treat on a (very) cold, snowy day in Maine. I have many geraniums in my garden, but none of them are doubles. Do you know your favorite's species or cultivar name? -Jean

  13. Yikes Anna, it is hard enough to make sense of photos when they are all present and correct in day-month-year directories, I can never find what I want easily, but all floating about in the ether?! How depressing. I hope 2013 is a wonderful year of growing for you, may your snowdrops thrive and multiply and your photos return to order.

  14. Some lovely photos there. I often think I should master some different techniques for displaying the photos on my blog but I just never seem to have the time. Arles looks beautiful. Wishing you a very happy 2013. Best wishes, WW

  15. Thanks for all your kind comments and new year wishes. Jean, that favourite hardy geranium is geranium pratense 'Plenum Violaceum'. Wellywoman, PicMonkey is great for collages and surprisingly it takes very little time to put a mosaic together or add other effects :)
