Grumpy

stippled-photo

I'm not sure whether I look as grumpy as the above snowdrop but I've definitely been out of sorts these last few days. There is domestic upheaval with the imminent arrival of new carpets, the weather has been dire so no chance to escape to the garden and my plans to start seed sowing yesterday were thwarted by a lack of vermiculite. I searched the greenhouse high and low but absolutely no sign of that bag that I'm sure that I never finished last year. Oh well thank goodness that February is only temporary. Hopefully normal service will be resumed as soon as possible.

P.S. There is a snowdrop with the name of 'Grumpy' although the above does not answer to that name.

  1. I am ALWAYS grumpy in February - it's my least favourite month of the year. This year is no exception ;)

I do like you snowdrop portraits - the black background sets them off very well. I was sure I left you a comment saying so on your 31st January post. I said it's worth making some cards using your photo :)

    2. A close call between February and November for me VP. Thanks for such nice words both here and via email about the snowdrop portraits. I'm going to investigate making cards :)

  2. I don't normally mind February, it's January I don't like but I'm with you this year. I think it's the weather. I know it's winter so we should expect the weather we're getting. It's because the rain is so incessant and we had barely any summer to speak of last year, I think it's just getting people down. I'm starting to wonder if the ground will ever dry out.

    1. January does not seem as bad to me as the days begin to lengthen but when it comes to February winter just seems to be never ending :( I think you have hit the nail on the head WW - February rain is normal but we've had nothing but for so long now.

  3. I didn't see 'grumpy' in your snowdrops at first, until I looked closer. I think it's natural to feel somewhat down in the dumps in February, by now, we've all had enough of winter and we're urging spring to get a move on. Thank goodness it's a short month.

  5. Lovely photo, thought it was Grumpy when I first saw it! Don't worry, February will soon be over then Spring will really be upon us and it will be all systems "go" with not enough hours in the day!!

    1. It must be a relative of 'Grumpy' Pauline :) You are quite right - those manic days of spring are not really so far off after all.

  6. I think we all feel better when we're able to get outdoors for some garden exercise - but it's just not happening. I was thinking at the weekend how perverse the weather is at the moment, every decent day has occurred on one of my working days - and I'm itching to get into the garden, if only for a quick tidy up and dig! Still, as they say in the Caribbean, "soon come" - or as a Californian work colleague would say "This too shall pass" ! Lovely photo, snowdrops have such character when you get to know them better!

    1. Yes that outdoor exercise would have been much appreciated last weekend Caro when inside was upside down. I have to remind myself how lucky I am not to be working now. I can remember all too well when time off work plans were thwarted by the elements. I like your comment about snowdrops having "such character when you get to know them better". They are not all identical as some folk think :)

  7. The weather is not at all conducive to gardener happiness, though I was amazed to see the sun and, get this, no rain at all, all day today. Of course the ground was far too wet to work, so I attacked the buddlejas at the entrance to the close instead. Hope you find your vermiculite, and sympathies for the carpets. Will be lovely when everything is back in place, but yuck, so disruptive.

    1. We had a mainly dry day too yesterday Janet which made a most welcome change. Gave up on the search and have been out and bought some vermiculite so seed sowing started today. The carpets are now down and everything back to normal so I'm feeling much less grumpy I'm pleased to report.

  8. I've never noticed the grumpy face on a snowdrop before! As you say February will be over soon, and yes I'll post pictures of my white forsythia as soon as it opens (it is only a tiny shrub still though so I hope you won't be disappointed!) - that'll cheer you up!

  9. February is grim. It is very mysterious how things disappear in a garden shed.
Someone should invent something that can levitate the furniture while the fitters slide the carpet underneath :-)

    1. 'Grim' is the very word EG. Now why has nobody come up with that invention yet or the one that clears up after the event? There is a fortune waiting to be made out there for somebody :)
