Willowy Wednesday ~ Tree Following In April

Sometime silently last week the willow opened up its first leaves of the year. There was no fanfare as far as I know and sadly I was not around to pinpoint this most special magic. I was slightly miffed as I was doing daily checks but then the lurgy and other events meant that I briefly took my eye off the ball and then look what happened !

Other than the leafing there is not much more to say about my willow this month other than I've noticed that there is a substantial patch of moss on the trunk.

I've discovered this because I'm looking at the tree more closely than ever before and squeezing in behind the shed to look at it from angles. If  I become permanently wedged there and don't hear from me for a while you will know where to direct the search party. More on my willow next month. Thanks to Lucy over at 'Loose and Leafy' for hosting this excellent meme. I will be visiting some of the other participants later today when I look forward to meeting some new to me trees as well as reaquainting myself with others.

  1. Hope you are properly better now. It sounds almost as if the tree arranged your lurgy specially so it could keep its magical moments secret. Hope you don't get wedged behind the shed. You might sprout twigs and leaves and turn into a Green Woman.

    1. Yes that willow could well be possessed with special powers Lucy. Could think of worse fates than being turned into a Green Woman :)

    1. Oh that's true - maybe my willow is shy and wanted to green in private. You are right about the moss - it's on the north side and as you suggest it could be useful information for the search party :) Thanks for your comment which is much appreciated.

  4. Things happen at such speed at this time of year that it seems that leaves can sprout and open within hours. Hope you're feeling better now, it's good to get the lurgy over and done with before the growing season really gets going.

    1. It certainly is that wooooosh season Jo - turn your back for one minute and all sorts of happenings have transpired. I suppose if you have to get the lurgy it's as good as any time to get it :)

  5. That is lovely old bark on your willow tree, very tactile, do you give it a hug every now and then, I think I would be tempted! Hope you are feeling better now and can appreciate all the loveliness of spring bursting around you

    1. Unfortunately hugs are out of the question Pauline however much I might want to. I would be at risk of a rather perilous fall into the stream. I blow kisses instead :) Thanks for your good wishes.

  6. Like many of our blogging activities this tree meme is encouraging people to look even more closely and notice even smaller changes. The first green certainly does tends to take us by surprise, doesn't it?

    1. The tree following meme is certainly making me more observant Cathy and I'm looking at my willow from angles I've not contemplated before.

  7. The trees here have been really sneaky too, unfurling their leaves the moment you turn your back! Hope you have fully recovered from the lurgy. Fresh air and tree watching is sure to help. :D

  8. Please don't get wedged! I love the moss, and weirdly feel faintly envious - I'm sure competition isn't in the spirit of tree watching!! I am sure that plants often save their little bursts of surprise for when our backs are turned, it is the only explanation I have for glancing out of the window one day to see that the two buds barely showing white on the magnolia had turned into 3 times that fully open with more on the way. Sneaky things, plants, of all sizes. I love the fresh leaves on your willow.

    1. Have not fear Janet - it will not come to that although it is comforting to know that the local fire station is just down the road :) Your magnolia has been joining in the fun and playing tricks on you too by the sound of it.

  9. I think leaves magically appear on trees overnight, at least that's what happens here:) If you take off for a holiday and don't post for awhile, you will have to warn us--otherwise, we'll think you are wedged next to your tree!
