In A Vase On Monday ~ Hanging On In There

Today's 'In A Vase On Monday' includes a couple of late lingerers together with a piece of leafy loveliness. The contents are as follows :
  • A spray of flowers from Rosa 'The Fairy', a small shrub bearing clusters of little pink pompoms, usually from July onwards until late November/early December. Looking back she has occasionally flowered in June. She has fine glossy foliage and unlike a near neighbouring rose 'New Dawn' does not usually succumb to black spot.
  • Persicaria amplexicaulis 'Blackfield' - another new purchase which has been giving me much pleasure. The flowers look darker to the eye than they appear on the camera.
  • Some foliage from heuchera Little Cutie 'Frost'. Despite the irritating name this has a most striking leaf. As the leaves were attempting to merge anonymously into the background I removed one just for the purposes of this photo. It has since been replaced to plug the gap. Apparently there is a whole family of Little Cuties but this is the first that I've come across.
I've just had a good peek over at 'Rambling In The Garden' and see that our hostess Cathy has also included a new to me heuchera in her vase this week. Coming across and learning about new plants is but one of the pleasures of sharing vases on Mondays. Thanks as always Cathy for the opportunity.

  1. Oh I love dinky little arrangements and I am sure you will see one from me in the near future with a winter treasure or two... I bought several heuchera fronm Plantagogo earlier in the year, mostly to fill gaps in the bronze heuchera bed around the Acer griseum. Blackfield is one of my new favourites and if you hadn't purchased one for yourself I am sure I could have split mine in due course. The little ink pot is perfect for a Fairy and its retainers - lovely :)

  2. Pretty roses. Whenever I see a new Heuchera, I want it but I really have plenty. This is beautifully marked, perhaps you could rename it. :)

  6. Lovely, Anna! I grew 'The Fairy' in my old garden years ago and can't explain why I haven't added it to this one. It's a pretty thing, as are the Heuchera leaves. I'd almost given up growing Heuchera but I caved and picked up 3 plants on my last trip to the garden center. I hope they survive!

  7. So pretty and I love your vase. There are some lovely new heuchera hybrids about but Little Cutey is new to me. It is indeed very cute, I will look out for it.

  10. Pretty vase - did you paint it? The heuchera and persicaria complement the rose beautifully. A little treasure!

  11. The fairy is still flowering in our garden, which is wonderful. Does yours flop all over the place? I was thinking of planting a New Dawn due to people singing it’s praises. I am sure the David Austin catalogue said it was disease resistant. More research required!

  12. Your roses look in remarkably good condition for the third week in November. I love the foliage of Heuchera, it doesn't really like the heat here but I do have some in a pot on the terrace where it is shady all summer thanks to the wisteria.

  13. The roses look as if they are floating above the vase and the whole is like a painting.

  14. How lovely to have roses still blooming in November! I'm a big fan of Heucheras; I often buy some cultivars for their names. At one time I had 'Key Lime Pie,' 'Creme Brulee,' 'Tiramisu,' and several others with appetizing names:)
