In A Vase On Monday ~ A Few Drops

Special visitors in the shape of a niece and her partner merited picking a few snowdrops to adorn the dining table yesterday lunchtime. This small vase was therefore a ready made choice for this week's 'In A Vase on Monday'. The snowdrops were a mixture of galanthus nivalis which are only just beginning to fully open, the lovely dainty double galanthus 'Lady Beatrix Stanley' and the mystery which is in a pot labelled 'Photo 3'. I remember taking photos of a few pots of snowdrops which had lost their labels in an effort to help me identify them. This was some time ago and 'Photo 3' is still unknown. The markings are not all identical making the challenge more difficult. For now the name 'Photo 3' remains until I can if ever come up with the real and hopefully more attractive one.

I see that our hostess Cathy over at 'Rambling In The Garden' is also showcasing the indomitable snowdrop in her post this week. Looking forward as always to peeking at other vases.

  1. I must admit that I can't always detect the differences between varieties of snowdrops unless I'm provided with a crib sheet but their beauty is never something I would question!

    1. I think that you have to see them in the flesh to fully appreciate the differences Kris and even then it can sometimes be a challenge πŸ˜„

  2. This is more like the vase I was originally panning Anna, till the flowerpot enticed me - the green and white together will always be a winner. Like you, I would be frustrated not being able to identify any of my snowdrops, and indeed after planting many of mine directly in the ground last year instead of in pots in the ground I have noticed a few oddments appearing which may cause identification issues in due course...hopefully my map shoud help, as some clumps were moved a little away from their previous positions. Thanks for sharing yours today

    1. Well your flowerpot was a beauty Cathy. Yes it's most frustrating not being able to identify the 'drops and I get annoyed with myself. Good look with updating your map πŸ˜„

  3. They're simply delightful, Anna, here too they've started to flower and I just love going for walks in that magical woodland at this time of year. Hope your arm is behaving. Have a good week xx

  4. Such a lovely eye catcher for your visiting relatives. The little green vase is perfect. If you posted photograph three snowdrop in isolation we could all have a bash, however it may be a very special "For my eyes only" snowdrop. How about that for a name? The smell must be divine. Enjoy watching all your snowdrops as they come into flower.

    1. Funnily enough the visitors didn't comment on the vase although one of them noticed my specials in the greenhouse. Both young people and more interested in their food than flowers methinks. What an excellent suggestion for a name Noelle! I'm most taken with it and what an improvement on 'Photograph 3' πŸ˜„

  5. Can you imagine life in January without snowdrops? I can't! I have a few in a little glass vase on our dining table at the moment which I picked out of the mud where they had been picked and dropped. Why would you do that? Maybe a child who doesn't understand how precious these little beauties are. Anyway, having washed the mud off the petals, the flowers are sitting there looking very happy - almost as lovely as yours! Amanda

  6. Some evil creature has been moving labels and even confiscating them so I am scratching my head about several snowdrops. I think Cathy's idea of a map is a good one. Have you got 'Grumpy' in your vase and is the one with the dark green cross 'Robin Hood' or 'Little John'? They look lovely in the green vase.

  7. Mmmm - I think that I have an evil creature about too Chloris. Thanks for your suggestions. I have never purchased 'Grumpy' and have ruled out 'Robin Hood' who I already have and have been able to compare against. I don't recall ever buying 'Little John' but will certainly look him upπŸ˜„
