Wordless Wednesday ~ Demolition Job

Postcript - a few words by way of a reveal. We had noticed little green planty bits on the table for a few days before the crime. The evening before I was washing the dishes, looked up and saw a squirrel pawing the content of the bowl. By the time contents still intact and in a ball of compost were on the table. I scooped everything back in and should have removed the bowl at the time but I didn't. Next day - a complete mess! My money is firmly on the squirrel. I had bought the bowl when out with a friend garden visiting last spring and it had been quite happy but I had only recently moved it on to the table. Oh well lesson learned and the bowl survives for another planting. Bits of the damaged plant have been replanted elsewhere. It's a permanent battle with those creatures and it seems that I'm always on the loosing side! One day though .....

  1. Is this a who done it? Keep us posted. Maybe the decking was looking too pristine.

    1. A whodunit is what it is Noelle πŸ˜„ You could be right. Both decking and the table the container was sitting on were painted in the spring.

    3. My prime suspect is about to be revealed any minute now Noelle πŸ˜‚ I doubt that it was a badger. Actually we have never seen one in these parts.

  2. Hello Anna, I have a good idea here - Blackbirds!

  3. Probably not blackbirds Shirl. All I can say is that I caught the possible culprit in action the day before. Wish that I had removed the pot at the time.

  4. Oh no Anna! They certainly made a good job of it... If not blackbirds, a cat? Do you have a cat yourselves...?

    1. Yes it was a thorough job Cathy. I doubt that it was a cat but you never know. I had a two cats when we got married but himself is not a cat lover. He did promise though that I could have another cat when I was an old lady. Time to remind him of that maybe πŸ˜„

    1. You have hit the nail on the head methinks Jessica! We had noticed small odd plant bits on the table previously and then the day before I saw a squirrel who was pawing the plants out of the container. By the time I got out the plants and ball of compost were intact but on the table. I scooped everything back in but should have removed the container out of harm's way at the time. Lesson learned! πŸ˜„

  6. I had similar trouble with my sempervivum and sedum. My culprits were wood pigeons.
