In A Vase On Monday ~ Here We Go Again

If the contents today's 'In A Vase On Monday' look familiar that is because they are. Almost the same pickings graced my vase of a fortnight ago, the only addition being a few snowdrop flowers, from tall stately 'George Elwes' and elegant early flowering 'Fieldgate Prelude.

What happened was that I had left that vase of cornus 'Anny's Winter Orange', viburnum tinus 'Lisa Rose' and a stem of rosa 'The Fairy' in the greenhouse for some reason and never got my act together to bring it into the house. The upside is that I enjoyed seeing some welcome colour whenever I nipped in the greenhouse and the cooler conditions have obviously prolonged the flowering life of the roses and viburnum.

My vase today is a snowdrop mug which was purchased on a visit to the RHS Chatsworth Flower Show last June. The stall was the first one to catch my eyes from under the all enveloping hood which covered my head for most of the day. It was a full time occupation just concentrating on where you were walking on what was an extremely unseasonably cool, damp and most muddy underfoot day so I was delighted that I didn't just walk on by. Initially I had my heart set on a snowdrop jug but there were none to be had on the stall on the day. That's gone on to the wish list for one day in the future.

Thanks as always to the lovely Cathy over at 'Rambling In The Garden' who today is enjoying some enticing seasonal scent in her trio of vases.

  1. Do you drink from your mug or save it only for flowers?

  2. The Fairy is so pretty, very well named. I saw Cornus ' Anny's Winter Orange'for the first time this year at Anglesey Abbey. It is fabulous, even better than 'Midwinter Flame'.

  3. It's a lovely mug, Anna, and perfect for your pretty snowdrops. I've probably said it before but I love that pink rose, which I grew at one time in my former garden. I MUST find it and try growing it again in this garden.

  4. Oh I didn't notice the pattern on the mug at first as it was hiding underneath the real snowdrops - and it's 3 dimensional too so must be most tactile. What a lovely thin to have - I must have had my head down as I don't remember seeing china like this, but then again there was lot that I missed :( I love the idea of having a vase in the greenhouse - at the moment I am still admiring lots of autumn sown seedlings (and trying not to think about where I am going to put all the others when I start sowing again!) What pretty flowers on the pink viburnum - I haven't seen one like this before. Thanks for sharing today, Anna

  8. What a lovely surprise to find them flowering in your greenhouse. Your vase and beautiful jug are very cheering.

  9. I'm thinking that something especially flowering, just to enjoy, in the greenhouse would be a great idea - at the moment there is nothing! Love your little snowdrop mug. I'd thought of booking for the Chatsworth show last year, I'm so glad I didn't; it seems to have been complete chaos by all accounts.

  10. Your little mug is lovely Anna. It seems strange though to have roses and snowdrops flowering at the same time! :)

  11. A beautiful mug, perfect for your little posy, Anna. I admit I've a bit of a passion for pretty mugs. Isn't it nice to see all the snowdrops coming up again. They truly lift my spirits in this awful weather, everything's so soggy...hope it's better your end. Best xx

Been very slow of late catching up with your blog, but as always it is a pleasure to read. I recognise that mug, a souvenir of a very enjoyable, although downright wet day. My fingers are crossed for better weather this year, and maybe we will find the jug...
