Yes I know it's Tuesday but my camera conspired against me and would not download the photos I took in yesterday morning's brilliant new year sunshine. In fact it was too bright really for taking photos. The plan was to pop out later for an action replay but by that time rain stopped play.
In my belated 'In A Vase On Monday' are stems of cornus 'Anny's Winter Orange' which is in its first winter with me (not as orange as I thought it might be but maybe that comes with age), some viburnum tinus 'Lisa Rose' and the last but one flowering stem of rosa 'The Fairy'. The latter is a stalwart having produced its clusters of small soft pink flowers since July. I think that this may have been the latest I've ever seen it bear flowers but then 2017 was a funny old year.
Thanks as always to the lovely Cathy over at 'Rambling In The Garden' for hosting come rain or shine and enabling us to share our vases throughout each season of the year.
'The Fairy' is very sweet and especially welcome at this time of year! A beautiful arrangement to ring in the new year! Happy 2018 to you, Anna!
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year Anna!
ReplyDeleteAmazing to be cutting roses in December.
ReplyDeleteOh, I rather like the orange Cornus: wish I could grow it here; I keep saying I'll try but there is nowhere I've seen plants to buy anyway. Amazing the rose in January, continuing cold nights have put a stop to all of mine now.
ReplyDeleteBob Brown was talking about Anny's Orange in Which? Gardening last month - very similar to Midwinter Fire, I believe. They are such an asset in the winter garden, aren't they? And my goodness, so is The Fairy! What a magcal spell she must have cast as she looks absolutely pristine still and looks most happy in the company of Lisa Rose. Thanks for sharing this sweet vase, Anna, and hope the camera problem gets a permanent solution
ReplyDeleteAmazing what you can find in the garden at this time of year, Anna - that's a very sweet vase of flowers. I saw very similar looking roses in bloom as I walked back from the shops a couple of days ago, although all the roses growing in the gardens here are dormant for now. I'm looking forward to the end of winter and wish you all the best for 2018! Caro x
ReplyDeleteAnny’s Winter Orange is a new Cornus to me, with several different ones in the garden I value them at this time of year.
ReplyDeleteBest wishes for 2018.
I've never achieved the art of putting flowers in vases - though one of my greatest moments in the year is to plonk a bunch of daffodils in a bottle, to see the splay and shine. It always feels much more new-yeary at that moment than New Year does itself.

Lovely arrangement! Seeing those sweet rose blooms is pretty amazing to me, since we've been in a frigid state here for the past two weeks. Wishing you a very Happy New Year!
