IAVOM ~ Festive Faffing

Not a traditional vase as such this week but some green from the garden and dried lunaria seed heads were used to concoct a festive hanging for our front door. A string of fairy lights was threaded through. All held together with the aid of twine and sticky back sellotape. Thanks to the Christmas fairy in the shape of Cathy over at 'Rambling In The Garden' for her hosting of 'In A Vase On Monday', which has been an excellent source of information, inspiration and encouragement throughout 2022 and no doubt will be a source of enjoyment in 2023.

Here it's Boxing Day and whilst himself relish getting back into the usual sports viewing routine normally associated with Saturdays, I'm plunging headfirst into sorting out my seed box and will be making lists and plans for warmer days. I hope that you enjoy your day whatever you are up to.

  1. I like the term concoct, and if I had to abandon my 'Stasher' tag, I think 'Concoctor' would suit the bill perfectly. Am I right in suspecting there is a 'strar shape' beneath that ivy? The lunaria seed heads lit up as quite special. Enjoy your day which in effect will be full of garden inspired planning.

    1. I'm delighted that you recognised that there was a star lurking underneath Noelle as I thought that I ended up obscuring it altogether 😂 The lights certainly add some magic sparkle to the lunaria.

  2. Hope you both had a pleasant day yesterday before settling into your post-Chritmas activities today. Not sure that the Golfer thought about watching any sport today, although he did look at the football results; meanwhile, I planted my Winter Sunshine sweet peas into the greenhouse border, began pruning the wisteria and finished the jigsaw I got from the belated lockdown Christmas in 2020 (The Craft Cupboard).
Yes, your not-IAVOM is not quite a wreath and not quite a swag - but definitely a 'hanging', and as with Noelle's it is so much nicer seeing them with things from the garden. The lunaria seed heads are a great day and reflect the light, particularly when illuminated. Have a good gardening year in 2023, Anna!

    1. Sounds as if you had a most pleasant Boxing Day indeed Cathy. Sometimes I wish that himself limited his sports viewing to just checking the results but then I suppose there could be worse vices 😂 I don't think we've done the craft cupboard ...... yet!

  3. The Lunaria in the mix looks wonderful, especially with the lights. Faffing is one of my favorite English terms.

    1. It's a rather lovely word isn't it Amelia. It sounds from your comment that maybe it's not so common over on your side of the pond?

  4. Lunaria seedpods are a perfect addition to a wreath, Anna. I tried to grow the plants from seed but that was an abysmal failure, which probably explains why I've never seen the plants for sale here. Best wishes with your seed-sorting and your garden dreaming.

    1. I imagine that California is possibly too warm and dry for lunaria to flourish Kris. Thanks for the good wishes - the seed sorting is still a work in progress.

  8. Dear Anna, I like your wreath. Such a nice idea to use honesty, must think of it next winter. I make a xmas wreath too each year. This year is a double-decker suspended one with red ribbon, the latter being a first as I usually tend to go for subtle, natural bits. I hope you had a lovely Christmas and that you're both doing well, enjoying your winter break. I'm doing a drawing/painting course which is fun. I also looked at your contributions to Cathy's "Week of flowers" - such nice choices too. Wishing you all the best for the new year, Annette

  9. Thank you Annette. A double decker wreath sounds most intriguing and a challenge - perhaps beyond my clumsy fingers. Glad to hear that you are dabbling with the paints and enjoying the experience. I used to go to watercolour classes many moons ago. A most Happy New Year to you too xxx
