C IS FOR?
CAKES!
It's been a cool and wet February day so comfort food is the order of the day. What fits the bill better than cakes and who can can craft them better than our continental cousins?
For your delectation here is a concoction of cakes - containing chocolate, coffee, caramel, custard, cream, chestnuts and coconut - oh such creative confectionery. All cakes were photographed in Colmar and Strasbourg in December last year and yes I must confess to consuming one or two along the way!
If you click on the collage for the bigger picture you will be able to see more clearly, in the bottom left hand corner, the regional speciality of Alsace which is kugelhopf. Should you fancy cooking it yourself here is a recipe.
Why don't you call round to ABC Wednesday for more on the letter C.

ReplyDeleteSweet Jesus Anna, I haven't even consumed the main course and already my head and stomach are looking forward to dessert. Oddly, my refridgerator offers a shockingly different assortment.... nothing nearly as enticing. I shall have to wandeer out in the snow..... maybe I'll run into Deborah on the way!
ReplyDeleteWow! Look at all the lovely cakes...so pretty! I have a bakery just a block away...hmmmm!
ReplyDeleteNice mosaic of delightfully yummy cakes!
A delightful choice of cakes. I can feel the pounds surrounding my hips just reading about them.
ReplyDeleteFun post.
Wonderful! I'd love to do a taste test there! Each one looks better than the previous one. Luscious!
ReplyDeleteCakes? Did someone say Cakes! Oh, this is my weak spot.
ReplyDeleteAhhhh, not sure I should have clicked on the picture at this late hour - far too tempting! If all sweets looked as good these (love the white mice!) I would be doomed.
ReplyDeleteOff to the fridge now.. :)
Anna,
ReplyDeleteI have a terrible weakness for cake. They all look delicious. I am intrigued by your kugelhopf cake, and may have to try the recipe. I recently made a Gateau Basque cake, which can be filled with a sour cherry jam or pastry cream... it was wonderful!
Hmmmm cakes eh? I am taking part in a recipe challenge this year so am on the look out for new things to try.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much
Denise (ABC Team)
Mmmmmm! I like your comfort food!
ReplyDeleteWe had jam sponge and custard last night - another great comfort food for February! Hmm ... sounds as if we've just jumped to 'F'! LOL!
They look delicious. How could anyone resist?
ReplyDeleteHappyMouffetard - great Homer Simpson imitation. I am of the same mindset. Not that I NED them...
ReplyDeleteI would love some of those comforting looking cakes, however it would mean leaving the house right now! Perhaps a bit later on...
ReplyDeleteCakes.... whispered in reverence....
ReplyDeleteHow long is it going to take to remove those images from my mind?
I have left you an award on my blog.
ReplyDeleteAh, so that's why you so enjoyed your trip to Strasbourg Anna?!!!
ReplyDeleteI'm reminded of Cannele, the scrumptious mini-cakes for which St Emilion is famed. They know how to make their confectionary don't they?
Now where did I put those Jaffa Cakes??!!!

Anna, I can almost taste those beautiful cakes - a great "c" post!
ReplyDeleteThey're too nice to eat.
ReplyDeleteWho ever thought two zillion calories could look so good
They all look so yummy. I bet I can similar at the 99 cents store!
ReplyDeleteHi Anna~~ I really need to go off sweets and you're not helping. [Smile] Yummo!
ReplyDeleteDear Anna, What an enticing posting!
ReplyDeleteOne of the delights of spending much of my time in Budapest is the vast number of coffee houses which, having survived the tribulations of nationalisation, have emerged flourishing. And of course, it is not just the coffee but also the cakes....
