Peek - A - Boo!

P IS FOR?

Polygonatum odaratum ~  or to give the plant it's common names of 'Solomon's Seal', which I am sure that you will agree is much easier to pronounce.

This is one of my all time favourite plants and is flowering in my garden now. The pendulous white flowers tipped with green dangle gracefully down from arched stems. Pure perfection in the plant world as far as I am concerned.

Please pop over to ABC Wednesday where there's a promise that you will find more on the letter P.

  1. I love this plant! I posted a "mystery plant" picture on my gardening blog the other day having no idea what it was! I transplanted this plant from a neighbor's neglected garden (she has no interest in maintaining her gardens!). I had no idea what to expect, but it just started to bloom! Thank you so much for posting this! Now I know what my mystery plant is!

  2. One of my fav plants (of the moment of course as I'm quite fickle really and love too many for my own good!).

  4. We have Solomon's Seal in our garden here but it doesn't bloom until June (chilly New York State). Our Solomon's Seal descends from plants grown by my lady's Grandma. She shared her plant with friends and now there is a circle of people sixty years later all enjoying the beautiful plant, including us!

  11. Anna:
One of the true stalwarts of the shade garden. I have been toying with the idea of adding yet more of the Asian species, but they are getting more expensive with each passing garden season, and I always seem to find myself hesitating. Exquisite taste my friend!

  12. Spectacular! There's so little green here - but things are looking up - there's been no snow for nearly a week!

  13. A favourite plant from my mother's part of the garden when I grew up. It appeared every year in the shade of next door's apple tree, right next to a cream peony.

It's a plant that suits out garden, and as a consequence I've accidentally started collecting them - various sizes and leaf variations, though I've yet to splash out for the gorgeous "Betberg" cultivar.
