"Wearing White For Eastertide"

"Loveliest of trees, the cherry now
Is hung with bloom along the bough,
And stands about the woodland ride
Wearing white for Eastertide.

Now, of my three score years and ten,
Twenty will not come again,
And take from seventy springs a score,
It only leaves me fifty more.

And since to look at things in bloom,
Fifty springs are little room,
About the woodlands I will go,
To see the cherry hung with snow."

~ extract from 'A Shropshire Lad' ~ A.E. Houseman, 1859 -1936. The fairy is one of Cecily May Barker's 'Flower Fairies'.

Wishing peace and joy at Easter to anybody who kindly visits at this most special time of year.

  1. Peace and joy to you too, Anna. My cherry came in to blossom last week but it doesn't look to have as much blossom as it did last year so I'm hoping that we still get a decent harvest. I'm loving all these Flower Fairy illustrations. I've still got to purchase the book.

  2. Happy Easter to you to, Anna. We've done a few local walks over the last couple of days and have been admiring all the wild blossom and my crab apple has just come into flower and looks beautiful. Hopefully the predicted rain tomorrow won't damage it too much.

  3. That is a poem my mother taught me, about a faraway land where she grew up. With Jo, I love your flower fairies, which have in turn inspired fynbos fairies!

  4. No cherry blossom yet for me but the damson blossom is out and the pear - they both look beautiful - love the flower fairy illustration.
