Musing in January

"January cold and desolate;
February dripping wet;
March wind ranges;
April changes;
Birds sing in tune
To flowers of May,
And sunny June
Brings longest day;
In scorched July
The storm-clouds fly,
Lightning-torn;
August bears corn,
September fruit;
In rough October
Earth must disrobe her;
Stars fall and shoot
In keen November;
And night is long
And cold is strong
In bleak December."

~ Christina Rossetti, 1830 -1894 - The Months
This poem sums up the weather pattern that I grew up with but "the times they are a changing". At the start of a new year I'm wondering what the weather holds in store for us this year. Let's hope it's a more gentle year for our planet. Happy New Year!

  2. We've just had a record breaking warm December. Too warm and too dry - all the depressions and 'weather' skirted to the north of us - we could do with some rain following a dry summer which has left reserves low. Actually, like you, we could also do with some cold to kill the bugs off , otherwise it'll be a bugs summer.

    Ring in the changes. Happy New Year!

  4. Happy New Year Anna, It's been very warm, wet and windy here too, we've had a couple of nights of frost and a sprinkling of snow so far, even when I was up in Perthshire last week there was a lack of snow on the mountain tops! Wishing you a great 2016 :)

  5. There's certainly been some weird weather just lately, I wonder when it will, or whether it will, get back in sync.

  6. The weather certainly is unseasonable at the moment and I wonder whether this year is an exception or whether it is the sign if things to come

  7. What an intriguing (but two-faced!) statue - a perfect symbol for this time of year. Yes, so many of those old poems and sayings no longer seem to be appropriate, but regardless of any global warming we live in a temperate and changeable weather zone and as such should expect changeable weather. Certainly gives us plenty to talk about :)

  10. Janus certainly seems to be keeping us guessing at the moment. I think we are all so sick of his wet face that a cold but sunny one would be a relief. I hope you are not too sodden up there Anna.
