Feeling "Greenish"

Not feeling seasick despite the title of this post. In between sowing veggie seeds in the greenhouse I took one or two photos of some of my special snowdrops this afternoon. Although in theory the temperature nudged double figures today, in practise it felt cooler with a wind and clouds taking the edge off those extra degrees. So I took my pots of snowdrops inside the greenhouse. Still trying to get the hang of photographing these white blobs but here's a couple of them, firstly galanthus nivalis "Greenish" ~

and then a touch of gold with galanthus plicatus "Wendys Gold" ~

I was feeling particularly snowdroppy happy today as the post bought my birthday present from himself - some more of these enchanting little flowers. More on this another day.

  1. Nice captures of your snowdrops - I agree white flowers are hard to photograph!

  4. Dear Anna, What an absolutely perfect birthday present - a parcel of special snowdrops. They bring such cheer at this rather dreary time of year, so I am sure you will look upon them fondly for years to come. 'Wendy's Gold' is charming and so unusual, an absolute gem!

Here in Budapest the weather has lost all its promise of spring. More snow yesterday and slush today.Ice to follow....Have a very happy birthday weekend.

  7. Happy birthday, Anna! I was just about to sadly admit that snow drops all looked more or less the same to me when *presto!* you showed the gold close-up. Yay! Now even I can see a unique feature! (Lots of trees look the same to me, too, LOL!)

  8. Lovely photo's Anna, I am probably in a minority but I find snowdrops boring, but your close up shot has made me see there is more to them than just a tiny white blob. I think it's because I like big blousy flowers, or delicate bright ones.
I hope you had a lovely birthday. x

  11. Happy Birthday, Anna! I wish you many happy returns of the day.

I've just gotten to appreciate snowdrops this year. In January, I wrote a post about them, as a matter of fact. I'd never thought much about them and then had a very close encounter, much like you pictured in your second photo. Although thanks to this post and a few others, I now realize that there are many, many kinds of snowdrops out there to fuel my new passion. :) "Greenish" is gorgeous!

  13. Many happy returns, Anna. I think the intricate details on snowdrops amazing. There's so many different varieties, however, some look so alike unless you get up close and notice the detail. Wendys Gold is certainly different though, with it's yellow tinge.

  14. Happy birthday Anna. What a lovely present to get for yourself. I can't get over the number of varieties of snowdrops there are - I've only seen two different types in the trade here in Ontario - perhaps they're not hardy? Sometimes I trick my camera into focusing where I want by putting a sheet of paper behind the blossom. It may take 5 or 6 half presses until the lens reads what I want. That little yellow/white galanthus is just darling.
