Lettuce Eat Let Us !

“Never pride yourself on knowledge. Remember; even a head of iceberg lettuce knows more than you do. It knows whether or not that light really does go out when the refrigerator door shuts.” ~ Anonymous.

No prizes for guessing what is on the menu this weekend - yes it's LETTUCE ! Lettuces 'Yugoslavian Red','Lobjoit's Green Cos' and 'Delicato' all photographed at the allotment this week.

  1. Hi Anna~~ Not long ago, I was at a nursery event. As I was paying the cashier, I noticed a potted ensemble that included a cute red lettuce--gorgeous. The clerk threw in a packet of free sunflower seeds. I could see that she had many types of seeds so I asked if I could trade my sunflower seeds for 'Red Sails.' Now I should actually plant them! LOL. Your lettuce rivals any flower, just beautiful!

They are so pretty I think you will need to invite company over to share your salad. :)

  3. Ah, so even the humble lettuce can provide a photo opportunity.

You've a salad forecast ahead watching the beeb this morning. I'm in no way weather obsessed, honestly.

  5. That quote did make me laugh! Your lettuces are looking very healthy. I saw someone frying lettuce the other day - might be worth a try!?

  6. I too love fresh lettuce, but Someone (and I'm not naming names) forgot to pull it before it flowered because she was so distracted with other things in the garden. Heh heh. I'm not sure how a second planting will do in the heat, but I'll give it a go.

  7. There is something very satisfying about picking those green leaves from the garden, often long before anything else is ready. And if you have to many you can always make lettuce soup which is superb! Val

  8. Now I am wondering what else goes on when the fridge door closes. Today was the first day I eat some home grown lettuce I seem to have missed out getting started this year too busy blogging.

  11. What gorgeous lettuces - so colourful. I love the quote. I have a feeling that the greenfly also know if the light stays on, when I fail to wash them off our lettuce.
