Garden Bloggers Muse Day - October 2009

"O hushed October morning mild,
Thy leaves have ripened to the fall;
Tomorrow's wind, if it be wild,
Should waste them all.
The crows above the forest call;
Tomorrow they may form and go.
O hushed October morning mild,
Begin the hours of this day slow.
Make the day seem to us less brief.
Hearts not averse to being beguiled,
Beguile us in the way you know.
Release one leaf at break of day;
At noon release another leaf;
One from our trees, one far away."

~ "October' - Robert Frost.

We have recently spent a most relaxing week near Malvern where the leaves were gently falling. A spell of calm settled weather was a bonus as we enjoyed walking, garden visiting and a trip to the Malvern Show where I met up with Patient Gardener. More to follow on all these activities soon. After a brief overnight pit stop at home,I am away again visiting my parents for a few days.

More October muses can be enjoyed at Sweet Home and Garden Chigaco hosted by Caroline Gail.

  4. Lovely photo, it certainly has been lovely weather recently... No rain for the best part of a month here but as it's now cooling down I'm not having to water as frequently.

    Rain is due today... I should probably not jynx myself...

  8. I love this poem, and Frost is one of my favorite poets! I wonder how I missed this one when I was looking for an appropriate poem this month--if I'd found it, I would have duplicated it:) I do like that idea of releasing just one leaf at a time. I'm hoping for a long autumn!

  10. Coming back from holiday I was amazed at how the trees had suddenly got their Autumn colour. I hope the wind stays away so that we have time to admire them.
